Professor Ted Dinan

Professor of Professor of Psychiatry, UCC

Ted is a medical graduate from UCC and obtained his PhD in Pharmacology from the University of London.  He is a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Psychiatrists and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.  Before returning to Cork, Ted was Chair of Clinical Neurosciences and Professor of Psychological Medicine at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, London.  Prior to that, he was a Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry at Trinity College Dublin.   His main research interests are in the biology of depression and functional bowel disorders. He is a Principal Investigator in the Neurogastroenterology and Bacterial Metabolites cores of the APC.

Professor Gerald Fitzgerald

Professor of Food Microbiology, UCC

Gerald holds a BSc and PhD in Microbiology from UCC and he subsequently spent two years as a postdoctoral scientist at the University of Michigan. Upon his return to the Department of Microbiology at UCC, he developed a research programme on fundamental and applied aspects of the industrially important lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria. He holds the Chair of Food Microbiology at UCC, is Deputy Director and Principal Investigator in the APC and founder CEO of Food for Health Ireland. He was awarded the DSc Degree in 2006 by the National University of Ireland for his published work.

Mr Kieran Moynihan

Kieran Moynihan is a dynamic experienced entrepreneur and executive with an outstanding track record over his 20 year career. Kieran co-founded Comnitel, a telecoms software company in 1999 and led the company as CEO from initial start-up through a 30 million-dollar series of fundraising with leading international venture capitalists. Over the period 2003 – 2007 Kieran performed the role of Chief Technology Officer for Vallent (a combination of 3 telecoms software companies Comnitel, Metrica and WatchMark ) driving the company’s product and go-to-market strategy, leading to the acquisition of Vallent (450 staff) by IBM in 2007. Kieran took on the role of Vice President and CTO for Telecoms for the IBM Tivoli division and was a key strategist & visionary for IBM’s overall telecoms business worldwide. Kieran has extensive M&A experience both on the acquirer and acquired side. Currently Kieran provides strategic consultancy to companies in the areas of go-to-market, sales, investment, M&A and exit strategy. Kieran is an executive coach for a number of CEOs and is the Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Cork Institute of Technology.

Sally Cudmore, PhD, MSc Tech Man

Chief Executive Officer

Sally has almost 20 years experience in research, commercialisation and management in academia and the pharma industry. She has a BSc in biochemistry from UCC and a PhD in Cell Biology from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Germany, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). She then moved to Elan Pharmaceuticals as Group Leader of Cell Biology and Project Leader on a gene delivery joint venture with a Seattle-based biotechnology company, Targeted Genetics. Sally has also completed an M.Sc. in Technology Management at the National Institute for Technology Management in UCD. Since 2003, Sally has managed the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre, a gastrointestinal health research centre with a staff of 150 scientists and clinicians.
